Starbucks Set to Close 300 Stores in Canada by March

Three hundred Starbucks locations across Canada are set to close by the end of March.

The Seattle‑based company announced its five‑year plan last year in response to shifting consumer habits during the pandemic. Starbucks says some locations already closed last fall, and the remaining closures are expected to be completed by March. As part of its restructuring, the company plans to expand drive‑thru locations and open more stores dedicated exclusively to delivery and curbside pick‑up.

The first store using this new format launched in Toronto’s financial district.

These closures also mean reduced staffing needs, which may impact job seekers and employees already facing a challenging labour market during the pandemic. As more retailers shift toward drive‑thru and delivery‑only models, candidates may see hiring trends move toward roles that support contactless service and digital operations.
