Summer Vacation is over… and... it’s back to work!
It’s official. September has arrived, kids are going back to school and the plans for summer vacations have passed. After summer holidays, it can be tough to adjust back into "work mode". You should feel well rested and ready to conquer your tasks… but the truth is, it might take a bit of work to get back into the grind.
Follow these quick tips to beat post-vacation blues...
1. Remove Unnecessary Distractions Get your head back into the game. It will be easy to get distracted looking at your friends Facebook pictures of their kids back to school outfits or liaising with your co-workers about their summer vacations. Follow the steps below and get back to work!
2. Have a Strategy for Tackling your Email Back Log During your time off, you may have neglected to keep your inbox clean and respond to emails in a timely fashion. Make use of your Outlook Management Tools. Some things you can do to get organized include: setting up rules for your current and future emails/contacts; use flags and categories to prioritize your responses and creating a clean organized folder list to easily find archived emails.
3. Treat September as the “New Year”. Set Goals! September has the same feel as January for most people. Statistically, you are much more likely to reach your professional goals made in September rather than in the New Year. Write down your professional goals and how you plan on measuring them and keep it visible as a daily reminder. Review your progress daily/weekly and adjust your goals as you go.
4. Create Healthy Habits Creating healthy lifestyle habits has a direct effect on your personal wellbeing but what most people don’t realize is this also translates to your professional development. Waking up earlier, starting a new exercise regimen, taking the stairs, making prepared meals in advance and drinking more water are just some of the ways you can reduce stress and feel more accomplished and prepared to start your day.
5. Prioritize your tasks A lot of our time is spent on tasks that are urgent rather than important. Spend time creating a list of things that need to be accomplished daily/weekly/monthly and focus on these items. Set time aside each day to deal with “urgent” matters that arise and tackle them once you have accomplished your “important” tasks.
Get your head back in the game... September is a time for productivity, crushing goals and focusing on your Career Development.
