Can I use social media to make a decision on a hiring decision?

Employers can use social media to make a hiring decision, however, they must ensure that the reason for hiring or not hiring a job seeker makes sense in their decision-making.

For example, if an employer finds that a job seeker is posting and sharing content that is considered racially insensitive, this could be a risk to other employees at an organization’s workplace - so you can make a hiring decision based on something like this. However, a job seeker's family status, political viewpoints, or music interest is not.
