3 Questions to Ask Your Candidates During the Hiring Process

People are working from home for the first time, strategies of managing your employees have changed, how we find a job, and so on.

In this article, we’ll cover three questions you should be asking candidates during your interview process that reflect the current times that we’re in.

1. What would you do if there were a tech issue that couldn’t be solved remotely right away?
This question will help you understand the candidate’s problem-solving skills and their ability to adapt to changing environments.

You want to know that the candidate you hire doesn’t need to ask questions all the time about how to manage something and they are confident in making some decisions on their own if need be. Having a candidate that can adapt quickly to different environments is also beneficial – not just by working from home – but also having the ability to jump in and perhaps help with tasks they have never done before at a moment’s notice.

2. How do you unplug at the end of the day?
The answer to this can reveal how a candidate handles daily stresses and their workload in order to avoid burnout.

Do they have hobbies, make time for family and friends, do they like to exercise daily, and so on. Making time for things in your personal life can help to create a healthy work-life balance. If not, employees could be at risk for spending time working too much, which could lead to stress and burnout.

3. Are you willing to work from an office when the pandemic is over?
COVID-19 won’t be here forever, so you want to ensure that you prepare for the future and ask whether a candidate is willing to work at your business’ location after the pandemic is over or if they are looking for a position that is strictly remote only.

You want to avoid hiring someone who in the end didn’t plan on working in an office in the first place.
