With a second lockdown in place due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in some cities in Ontario, a lot more people will be staying at home and working remotely.
For some, the transition to working from home has been easy, but for others, it has been difficult. With the lack of workplace culture, juggling kids attending school from home, etc., this transition can take a toll on many.
Below are a few tips to help those working from home stay positive and productive.
1. Manage your time.
It’s best to have a consistent routine as much as possible.
Wake up at the same time every day
Don’t stay in your pajamas
Eat lunch around the same time every day
Schedule phone calls with your manager around the same time every day
Hold team meetings around the same time
By maintaining a structure, you’ll be more likely to stay focused throughout the day. It will also help you to separate your work life and downtime better.
2. Keep active.
Especially with the pandemic, it’s a lot harder to add this into your routine with gyms and fitness centers closed or open with a limited capacity. Find other ways to exercise by going for a walk, or a jog, taking part in at-home fitness videos through channels like YouTube, etc.
3. Eat healthy.
Similar to keeping your schedule consistent, you should also make sure you eat healthy meals throughout the day. Don’t skip breakfast, have some pre-made lunches ready, have healthy snacks available, and drink plenty of water. This will help you to stay energized throughout the day.
4. Maintain a connection with friends and family.
With everyone in isolation and social distancing measures in place, it is extremely important to stay in touch with those you care about. With modern-day technology, we have the ability to virtually connect with our friends and family. Utilize programs like ZOOM, Facetime, Skype, etc., to keep in touch with people. This can do wonders for your mental health to know that you are not alone during the pandemic.
5. Take advantage of being at home.
With the cancellation of many events, you can use this extra time at home to do some personal development.
Take an online course and learn more about a specific skill in your field.
Learn something completely different.
De-clutter your space. Spend some time getting rid of clothes, furniture, miscellaneous items, etc., that you don’t use anymore.
Work on the DIY project that you haven’t had the time to get to.
